Sensational Skin Tips to Showcase Your Stunning Gown

Essense of Australia, style D2215: Our featured column dress above boasts an elegant and unique illusion bodice with detailed lace appliqué. The asymmetrical cut of the bodice harmonizes with an organic neckline that showcases a lace illusion back. Sleek lace and crepe captivate and provide the perfect backdrop for the lace appliqués that extend to the train.

Your Skintastic Regime

New York Bride & Groom has been in business for a long time. Over the years we’ve heard every bridal concern there is. One of the more common worries for brides concerns the condition of their skin on the big day. We’re always here to help, so drink lots of water and start your journey to clear, glowing skin with these helpful tips from The Knot:

Eat Super Foods

No matter what your skin type is—oily, dry, normal or a combo— it craves water. Sure, drinking water helps, but snacking on naturally hydrating foods like watermelon works too. Other super foods for your face? Try grapefruit, cucumbers, tomatoes and kale.

Wear SPF 30…On Your Lips

It’s easier to prevent your lips from getting chapped than it is to repair them if they’re already dry and cracked. If you spend lots of time outdoors, especially in windy, sunny or cold weather, a thick balm with SPF 30 will keep your lips hydrated.

Use Salt Scrubs to Soften Elbows

This is the one thing most brides forget about. Add a bath to your weekly routine and throw in bath salts with sodium bicarbonate. “The sodium bicarbonate will break down dry patches and make your skin a sponge for moisture,” says Zicu. For really tough patches, ask an aesthetician to put a glycolic peel on your elbows when you go in for a facial.

Madison James, style MJ16: Capture vintage glamour and a sophisticated vibe in this Gatsby-era inspired satin wedding gown. The empire waist offers the timeless elegance of the Roaring ’20s. Available sizes: 2-32. Available colors: White/Silver, Ivory/Silver.

Timeline Planning For Optimum Radiance

Ensuring that you pre-plan your beauty treatments is vital to your overall success. Leaving skin treatments until the last minute might not give you adequate time to deal with breakouts, inflammation, redness or other skin scourges. Here are some great general time guidelines from Pop Sugar:

6 Months Before

  • Start laser hair removal treatments. If you’ve had a lifelong hatred for your mustache or want a smooth bikini line for your honeymoon, head in for your first appointment now. These treatments require six weeks in between each one so every hair (at each point in its growth cycle) is zapped.
  • Get that acne, hyper-pigmentation, or rosacea under control once and for all.If a major skin care concern has been troubling you, visit your dermatologist to see what your options are. Issues more severe than the occasional blemish or fine line will take some time to treat. Continue reading at Pop Sugar

Kenneth Winston, style 1600: Sensational back interest is offered in this romantic wedding dress. Chantilly lace straps blend with a low sweetheart neckline that showcases an open illusion laced back. Finished impeccably with a cascading effect of detachable pearls, this awe-inspiring dress is a stunner.

Showcasing Your “Back Interest” Wedding Gown

If you’re planning to wear a wedding gown with an open back, you should keep an eye on the condition of your skin in the exposed area. We don’t always see or feel blemishes or marks on our skin; getting into the habit of scanning your back will help you be aware of any potential issues as they arise. When they do, Brides.com has some stellar tips for banishing unsightly “bacne”:

“Bacne is harder to treat since the skin on your back is thicker and more difficult to access,” says Jennifer Linder, M.D. board certified dermatologist and chief scientific officer for PCA Skin. “On top of genetics, hormones, and, of course, wedding planning stress, pore-clogging hair products, tight clothing, sweaty workout clothes and bedding can all be triggers for back acne.” But if you start a regimen early (at least six months to a year before the big day), it’s possible to find over-the-counter products that combat annoying breakouts in time for your wedding.

Spritz on a salicylic acid treatment spray.

While benzoyl peroxide is great in the shower, salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (or BHA) that acts primarily as an exfoliating agent, but also has some anti-inflammatory activity that can reduce oil on your skin. “I generally find it works well as a leave-on product and it tends to complement sensitive skin better than benzoyl peroxide,” says Dr. Shah. “Murad Clarifying Body Spray makes it easy to treat the middle of your back with its 360 degree nozzle — it even sprays upside down.” (Clarifying body spray, $40, Murad available at Sephora)

Slather on a soothing moisturizer.

Acne medications tend to be very drying so it’s important to keep your back hydrated and wear loose, breathable clothing. “Moisturizers should be clearly labeled as ‘oil-free’ and ‘non-comedogenic,’ which means it won’t exacerbate breakouts,” says dermatologist Dr. Rachel Nazarian of Schweiger Dermatology Group. “Look for lotions or gels — rather than creams or ointments — because they are lightweight and will absorb quickly into your skin. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion is a derm-approved favorite.

About Our Process and Brand

Laura Jayne designs and creates chic, customizable hair adornments, veils, jewelry and accessories for style savvy women. From the perfect wedding accessories to a distinctive style statement for an evening out, we thrive on creating fresh designs to make “that gown” uniquely your gown.

Laura Jayne began designing for brides over two decades ago, while managing a couture bridal salon. When a bride brought her Laura Jayne design to a bridal salon and asked, “Do you have a gown to go with my headpiece?” The first wholesale collection soon followed and became available to brides across Canada. As the collection has evolved, the original vision remains: to create pieces with a modern classic aesthetic beautifully finished, worthy of becoming treasured heirlooms.

Make Sure Your Shoes Work

While it is easy to fall in love with a gorgeous pair of shoes based solely on appearance, it is vital that you try them on with your wedding dress and actually walk in them. Looks and style are important, but getting down the aisle without falling or wobbling like you’re in heels for the first time is paramount.

Wtoo Wedding Dresses: Flowing Flattery For Brides

Floating enchantingly down the aisle is an attainable vision when your wedding dress comes from New York Bride & Groom in Charlotte. Our divine selection of Watters/Wtoo wedding gowns accentuates every figure to flawless perfection. From boho brides to sophisticated traditionalists, this bridal line combines elegant design with exquisite craftsmanship to offer something for everyone. Best of all, our experienced bridal consultants can help you slip into the Wtoo dress of your dreams with no appointment necessary.

In their own words, here’s what the designers behind Wtoo have to say about their contribution to your special day:

We Love Love

We’re inspired every day by your real-life romance, and passionate about our role in your perfect wedding experience.

Wtoo, style Tenley: Sweet and feminine, our featured dress (pictured above) exudes romance. Perfectly-placed ruffles create a full skirt of Matte Organza and Tulle while the corset boasts an intricate Neve Beaded Motif. A Sweep Train adds to the already heightened drama of this breathtaking gown. Available sizes: 0-32. Available colors: Ivory, Moscato (pictured).

“A-line wedding dresses are complimentary to a variety of body shapes,” most fashion experts say, and I agree with them.

An a-line bridal gown silhouette forms the capital “A” shape. It usually is fitted through the bust and waist areas and flares from the sides.

How does this dress help your figure? “It’s all about where the flare starts.”

  • This shape makes your figure appear smaller above the point where the dress starts to flare. The widening out of the hem forms this illusion. Because this silhouette hide figure flaws…it’s a favorite among brides.
  • The flare can happen at any point along the side seam. For bridal gown designs this flare can start right below the bust or as low as around the hip/thigh area
  • Most a-line wedding dresses today are fitted through the waist area and flare about the upper hip/abdomen area. This is the ideal spot for anyone who wants to hide the tummy area.
  • As you try on wedding dresses…pay attention to where the flare starts on the side seams of the bridal gown. This can mean the difference in your gown “accentuating the positives” of your figure or focusing on your “problem spots.

It’s easy to see why the a-line bridal dress style is very popular with brides.

Wtoo, style Agnessa: Feminine and classic, Agnessa is the ultimate wedding dress. With cascading tulle cinched at the waist with a slimming Blythe Sash, this gown is perfect for the bride who loves romance. The gown is finished with a gorgeous Chapel Train. Available sizes: 0-32. Available colors: Ivory, Amaranth (pictured).

Perfection Found In The Smallest Details

The result of a perfectly hemmed wedding gown is the illusion of gliding without any fear of tripping. The stellar alterations department at New York Bride & Groom keeps our brides floating down the aisle with the utmost confidence.

If you want to add a little zest to your dress, opt for a hint of color with soft pastels, off-whites and blush selections, such as the Agnessa style shown above. Enhance your natural skin tone by trying on a variety of complementary shades to discover which look makes you glow.

Wtoo, style Lenora (beaded): For the bride who loves a polished look, Lenora is the answer. Boasting classic Circle Lace, Lenora features a high neckline with cap sleeves. Thoughtfully-placed trim and cutouts contour the body while the open keyhole back adds a modern twist. The dress is finished with a lovely Puddle Train. Available sizes: 0-32. Available colors: Lace: Off-white, Lining: Multiple shades. (This dress is also available unbeaded.)

Flowing With a Fitted Dress

Even if you prefer a more fitted wedding gown, the option for creating a “flowing silhouette” can still be a reality if you incorporate the right veil, cape or accessories. Our seasoned NYB&G team can help you choose the finishing touches from our accessories lines to bring your head-to-toe vision to life.
